Alongside American Taylor Townsend, the 20-year-old Quebecois will jump on the Philippe Chatrier Court at 11:30 a.m. or 5:30 a.m. Quebec time.
The Canadian-American duo meets Chinese Xinyu Wang and Taiwanese Su-Wei Hsieh.
“Every player dreams of playing a Grand Slam and winning and taking home the trophy,” Leylah said on Friday after beating second-seeded Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula of the United States in the semifinals.
A first big trophy?
Fernandez and Townsend will be looking for their first major senior title after excelling at juniors. The Canadian won Roland-Garros in 2019 and the 27-year-old American triumphed at the Australian Open in 2012.
In the pros, Fernandez finished second at the 2021 US Open, while Townsend reached the women’s doubles final in New York last year.
Leylah is also looking to salvage the Maple Leafs’ honor safely in the French capital, as Bianca Andreescu lost in Thursday’s mixed doubles final and Ontario’s Robert Shaw lost in Saturday’s ultimate wheelchair quad doubles match.
