Ron DeSantis ended months of speculation by finally announcing that he will run for president in 2024.

“I want to personally congratulate ‘Rob’ DeSanctimonious on finally announcing that he will be running for President of the United States,” he quipped in a post on his platform Truth Social. “Hopefully he will have the full experience of being attacked by our country’s marxists, communists and left-wing crazies without ever knowing what kind of job he is doing.”
Trump added, “These lowlifes & misfits are far worse than the leaders of hostile foreign countries. They must be decisively defeated to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!’
Just 24 hours before the chat, Casey DeSantis, the contestant’s wife, posted a 30-second clip previewing the launch on her Twitter. DeSantis reposted the Florida First Lady’s tweet.
The video caused some confusion. Some believed it was the official start of DeSantis’ presidential campaign, while others wondered why his team decided to use a narrator with a British accent.
Before submitting an application, DeSantis had to rely on his allies in the Florida legislature to pass legislation that would allow him to run for the highest U.S. office while continuing his second term as governor of the Sunshine State.
The so-called “Resign to Run” rule was defeated by the Republican majority in Florida’s state legislature last month, and DeSantis signed the bill that paved the way for him to run for president without having to step down as governor.

DeSantis is considered Trump’s main competitor
DeSantis is widely believed to be the only candidate who could rival Trump in the 2024 primary.
But Trump still holds a commanding lead over DeSantis — and all other Republican challengers in 2024 — in the polls.
The former president has an outright majority and leads the way with 53 percent support from Republicans in the latest CNN/SSRS poll released Wednesday. That doubles his support among voters as DeSantis’ 26 percent support.
This is consistent with other recent polls showing DeSantis trailing Trump by a wide margin, with the range widening as Trump faces a number of legal challenges.
At 44, DeSantis is one of the younger candidates to run for the Oval Office and is more than three decades younger than his main rival.
