Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will announce his 2024 presidential campaign in a conversation with Twitter owner Elon Musk on Wednesday afternoon, various US media reported, citing sources from his political team.
The announcement of the candidacy, with which he will compete with Donald Trump, will be made on Twitter Spaces, where users of the platform can participate in audio calls. According to NBC, the call will be moderated by tech entrepreneur David Sacks, who is first to break the news.
The procedure is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Florida and midnight Wednesday through Thursday in mainland Spain. Two hours later he will give an interview to the conservative broadcaster Fox News. It will take place during prime time and will be previously occupied by the station’s star presenter, Tucker Carlson, who was fired after an agreement with the Dominion company to avoid a defamation lawsuit for voter fraud. The interviewer will be Trey Gowdy, a former Republican congressman from South Carolina and a regular contributor to the network.
DeSantis is expected to hold fundraisers this week and a rally next week in Dunedin, the west Florida city outside of Tampa where he grew up.
After former President Donald Trump’s candidacy was unveiled after the midterm congressional elections, there was an avalanche of potential rivals, but DeSantis’ candidacy is the most anticipated and most feared candidacy for former President.
Already in the running for the Republican nomination are the only black Republican Senator, Tim Scott; former US Ambassador to the United Nations and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley; Governor of Arkansas, Asa Hutchison; Vivek Ramaswamy, billionaire biotech entrepreneur and scourge of woke ideology; fellow businessman Perry Johnson; political commentator Larry Elder; and politician and businessman Rolland Roberts, son of the West Virginia Senator of the same name. Trump’s former Vice President Mike Pence is also expected to compete for the Republican nomination while others defoliate the daisy.

Billionaire Elon Musk, the richest man in the United States, head of Tesla, SpaceX and Twitter, has already said on the social network that he would support Ron DeSantis as a candidate for the 2024 elections if he were to run in the primaries.
“My preference for the 2024 presidency is someone who is sensible and centrist. I had hoped that would be the case with the Biden administration but so far have been disappointed.” tweeted a week after the former President’s Twitter account was reactivated: that he didn’t use it. However, he was then asked by a user if he would support Ron DeSantis (who is actually not a centrist) and Musk answered yes.
Musk has already announced that he will vote for the Republican Party in the November 2022 general election, which actually resulted in the White House tenant’s party’s best result in 20 years. Since the magnate took control of the network, misinformation and right-wing conspiracy theories have been on the rise on Twitter.
