The 2023 Latin Grammys have been an explosion of emotions since the artists began walking the red carpet in Seville. The music spoke as if with force, but never with more force than in the opening number by Spanish superstar Rosalía.
Shakira also moved and the message she wanted to say beyond her songs was completely understood. However, there was no more forceful reaction than the one Rauw Alejandro gave to his ex. The clues came and went at the FIBES Conference and Exhibition Palace, where the awards ceremony took place.
The Dress of Vengeance
Apparently very much in love, Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro spent more than two years together, most of them married, until they announced in July 2023 that they had decided to separate. Rumors about his infidelity grew rapidly until the Spanish artist herself ruled out that this was the reason for the separation.
“I love, respect and admire Raúl very much, don’t pay attention to the films, we know what we have experienced. This moment is not easy, so thank you to everyone for your understanding and respect,” Rosalía wrote on her Instagram account.
Her decision to sing “Se nos roto el amor”, the hit of the legendary Rocío Jurado, at the Latin Grammys and to wear a neckline exactly like the so-called “revenge dress” that Princess Diana wore in her first appearance after her When she separated from the then Prince Charles, she did not go unnoticed.
Nor the fact that Rauw Alejandro was in the audience, accompanied by none other than his mother. Rauw did not remain silent
Most artists for these types of events choose songs that they want to promote or that undoubtedly identify them. With this in mind, Alejandro Sanz, for example, made a version of “Corazón Partío”.
However, this did not seem to be the driving force behind Rauw’s choice of repertoire. The artist released not one, not two, but three songs and you could feel that he was singing them to Rosalía.
The first was “Se me fue” by Laura Pausini, the “Person of the Year” at these Latin Grammys. Sporting a cream pantsuit and jacket and bold shoulder pads, Rosalía’s ex seemed to leave his soul in every note. At his feet was a ring of fire made of burning candles.
His droopy and increasingly red eyes hid nothing and gave an even more heartbreaking note to a painful text:
“He doesn’t even answer the phone anymore.
My hope is hanging by a thread
I never thought I could lose my mind like this
For him
Because suddenly he didn’t love me anymore
Because my life became empty
Nobody answers my questions
Because without him I have nothing left.”
Then he played two songs. “Don’t let me go” and “Baby Hello”, both inspired by Rosalía, as he said himself. Surprisingly for the second, his collaboration with Bizarrap and the one he had to promote heartbroken in the summer had the rock support of Juanes.
Surprisingly, both of them left the 2023 Latin Grammys ceremony empty-handed as neither of them were among the night’s winners. The awards were dominated by Shakira, Natalia La Fourcade, Karol G and Bizarrap.
