You think you have marital problems? This lady has a time traveler husband!

Somehow no sequel to Glenn Close’s Oscar-nominated The Wife, The Time Traveler’s Wife brings to life the sad reality of being married to a time traveler. Sure, it’s romantic to see your man at different stages of life, but what if you just want a quiet movie night?

Rose “You Know Nothing, Jon Snow” Leslie plays Claire, the titular wife of Henry (Theo James), one of those husbands who spends all his free time galavanting across the space-time continuum. Unfortunately for Claire, as she has an undying love for Henry, she has to come to terms with his penchant for getting lost in time and returning to various tragic moments in his life.

Based on the novel by Audrey Niffenegger, The Time Traveler’s Wife was previously adapted for a film starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams. The film that grossed more than $100 million despite opening against GI Joe: The Rise Of Cobra. Instead of doing that again, HBO Max expanded it into a six-episode series.

And who better to adapt the tale of a time-travelling husband for HBO than Steven Moffat, known for saving or ruining Doctor Who and creating or ruining Sherlock, depending on who you ask. In response to the book, Moffat wrote the Doctor Who episode The Girl In The Fireplace. He serves as executive producer and writer for the series. However, it is unclear how much of it he writes.

“I read Audrey Niffenegger’s The Time Traveler’s Wife many years ago and fell in love with him,” Moffat said in a statement. “It’s a story of happy endings — but not necessarily in that order.”

The Time Traveler’s Wife will premiere on HBO Max on May 15.
