Roy and the Islanders collapse in front of nearly 80,000 people

Everything pointed to the New York Islanders heading for a comfortable victory at MetLife Stadium on Saturday, but the New York Rangers staged a commanding comeback to win 6-5 in overtime.

After a mistake by defenseman Noah Dobson before his goal, Artemi Panarin recovered the puck and gave his team the victory.

After an early start to the game in favor of Rangers, who opened the scoring through Erik Gustafsson, Patrick Roy's men scored four unanswered goals thanks to efforts from Brock Nelson, Mathew Barzal, Anders Lee and Bo Horvat.

The tide turned in the second half of the game, mainly due to the islanders' indiscipline. Peter Laviolette's players scored three power play goals, including two in the final five minutes of the game, sending the two teams into overtime.

Vincent Trocheck, twice, Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider were the other authors of the Rangers' success. Former Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexander Romanov scored the Islanders' other goal.

This meeting was the third most attended in National Hockey League history, with 79,690 people in the stands at the New York Jets' home stadium.

The Islanders will be back in action on Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Rangers, for their part, will cross swords with the Dallas Stars on the same day.
