The Jeremy Renner-led “Mayor of Kingstown” returns today for a second season, and the finale deals with the aftermath of last season’s prison riot.

Of course, the focus at the start of the series was more on his star’s health as Renner continues his recovery after a snowplough accident that left him in critical condition in hospital. The actor has started a long road of recovery from some serious injuries since Sinec.

Showrunner Hugh Dillon, who co-created the drama with Taylor Sheridan, recently spoke to Deadline about Renner’s injuries and what will happen when a third season picks up on the Paramount+ service.

Speaking about the accident, Dillon said he heard about Renner’s injuries from one of the other producers and then saw it on the news. He says:

“I’m just thinking about this guy’s world and I’m glad he’s surrounded by his family. Anything we can do to help, we will do. That’s the biggest thing. He’s like family.”

When asked when a third season could theoretically begin production, Dillon says:

“I would think we would start pre-production in August, September, maybe in the summer,” adding that he and Sheridan have “multiple ideas for multiple seasons.”

Mayor of Kingstown Season 2 will be released weekly on the platform through March.
