The robes that are worn are historic and part of a British Royal Family collection. The attire was worn by members of the monarchy at past coronations.
King Charles III will wear garments that were part of the coronations of King George IV (1821), George V (1911), George VI (1937) and Queen Elizabeth II (1953).
Part of the event are the “Imperial Mantle” and the “Coronation Glove”, classics of the British coronation.
The imperial mantle is of gold fabric and has gold and silver accessories and silk arrangements. The clasp, also gold, has the shape of an eagle. The piece is the oldest in the coronation ceremonial collection and was made in 1821.
