Laval University’s Rouge et Or has only seven representatives on the all-star team unveiled this afternoon. This is the lowest number since 2007, the year the census began on the RSEQ website.
Not surprisingly, the Université de Montréal Carabins dominated the All-Star team with 13 selections. Quarterback Jonathan Sénécal leads the way to the regular season champions. The Concordia Stingers, McGill Redbirds and University of Sherbrooke Vert & Or finish with 5, 3 and 1 selections, respectively.
For the Rouge et Or, blocker Nathaniel Dumoulin-Duguay was selected to the All-Star team for the second year in a row, as were slotback Kevin Mital, defensive back Cristophe Beaulieu and precision kicker Vincent Blanchard.
Safety guard Félix Petit, cornerback Jordan Lessard and returner Guillaume Cauchon received this honor for the first time.
“I’m a little surprised by my selection,” Petit said. It’s always flattering to receive such an honor, but the goal is to win the Vanier Cup when you come to Laval, not to win individual awards. All five of our defensive backs could have been selected. Maxime Lavallée was a big influence and Arnaud Laporte was excellent.”
Lessard is the author of four interceptions and is the only rookie to find himself on the All-Star team.
This is the first time since 2017 that the Rouge et Or have only had one offensive lineman on the All-Star team. Guard Samuel Thomassin was one of the ten players selected for the Rouge et Or in 2017.
“We picked up a few yards on the ground and allowed a lot of sacks, and that’s motivation to try to forget our season,” said Dumoulin-Duguay, who felt strong emotions Wednesday night as his girlfriend Audrey Champagne took the conversion kick scored that gave the Rouge et Or victory in their first game at the Canadian Rugby Championship. The offensive begins on the front line, but all members of the unit have had problems before. [un] other. We have corrected details and want to show the true face of the offensive unit during the playoffs, which is a bit of a redemption.
The individual awards will be announced at a press conference at the university where the provincial final will be held on November 10, the day before the Dunsmore Cup.
