Rudy Giuliani is expected to testify next month before the House Select Committee on Jan. 6 about his efforts to delay or overturn the election of Joe Biden in 2020 just ahead of the Capitol riot.
The committee subpoenaed Giuliani – Donald Trump’s former personal attorney – in January, with Giuliani’s team and lawmakers negotiating how he will comply if he testifies in May, sources told CNN.
In the subpoena, the committee alleges that Giuliani “actively promoted allegations of voter fraud on behalf of the former president and attempted to persuade state legislatures to take steps to overturn the election results.”
It also said Giuliani has been in touch with Trump and congressional officials “regarding strategies to delay or overturn the results of the 2020 election.” The former mayor of New York City attended the Save America rally held in Washington DC and was photographed speaking to a crowd, some of whom later rioted at the Capitol.

The committee has said it expects Giuliani to cooperate with the subpoena, but the Trump attorney will be able to invoke executive or attorney privilege to respond to specific questions.
The House Select Committee declined to comment on Giuliani’s expected appearance.
Giuliani will be the latest member of Trump’s inner circle to speak to the committee after daughter Ivanka Trump spoke to the committee for nearly eight hours on April 5.
Her husband, Jared Kushner, previously met with the committee, and Donald Trump Jr. is expected to testify before lawmakers in the coming weeks.
Giuliani had raised concerns in the moments leading up to the Capitol riot, speaking to Trump supporters and repeating his false claims that the election was stolen and that the opposition should face a “trial by struggle.”
“If we’re wrong we’ll be taken for fools, but if we’re right many of them will go to jail. Let’s try a fight,’ he said, without explaining exactly what he meant by fight.
“I’m willing to put my reputation on the line, the President is willing to put his reputation on the fact that we’re going to find crime there,” he added to the frenzied crowd.

Giuliani, the former mayor of New York, is also facing a potentially ruinous billion-dollar lawsuit filed in January 2021 by Dominion Voting Systems, who accused him of defamation after he alleged without evidence that the company rigged the election, to defeat Trump.
In the tense moments of the 2020 election, Trump had instructed Giuliani to call the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to determine if it could legally take control of voting machines in key swing states.
Trump had also asked Attorney General Bill Barr if the Justice Department could take the voting machines away. Barr said no.
Trump continues to falsely claim he lost the November 2020 election to widespread fraud, despite multiple court losses and trials that confirmed Biden’s victory.
Giuliani could also be indicted by federal prosecutors in New York for his foreign lobbying activities related to Ukraine while serving as Trump’s attorney.
Earlier this month he met with prosecutors to unlock three of his phones after months of refusing to cooperate, according to CNN.
Giuliani has denied any wrongdoing and has said in the past that he has not “represented” anyone from Ukraine, insisting his work in the country is in his sole capacity as Trump’s attorney.
