The royal family’s mantra of “never complain, never explain” was first adopted by the Queen Mother when she became Queen Consort in 1936, Insider previously reported. It was passed down to her daughter, the late Queen Elizabeth, who appeared to have abided by the rule by never giving interviews or responding to questions from the press.
in one recent interview with Anderson Cooper, Harry said “never complain, never explain” is “just a motto” and that some family members don’t follow him due to story leaking and planting. In his memoir, Harry accused Camilla, Queen Consort of leaking stories about William and a story about Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton’s argument over a bridesmaid dress in 2018. Buckingham Palace did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment on Harry’s claims in the book.
Although William has not publicly responded to Harry’s allegation, it is apparent that he cannot give interviews to the press as openly as Harry currently is.
Since leaving the royal family, Harry has given interviews to Oprah Winfrey, James Corden, Tom Bradby, Stephen Colbert, People and more Michael Strahan.
