Comedian and actor Russell Brand was accused of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse for seven years at the height of his fame. This was revealed by a joint investigation by the Sunday Times, the Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches, as we read on the BBC. Four women said they were sexually abused between 2006 and 2013. Brand denied the allegations and said his relationships were “always consensual.”
During the years covered by the allegations, Brand held several high-profile roles, including on BBC Radio 2 and Channel 4 and as an actor in Hollywood films.
Brand released a video in which he denied the “serious criminal allegations.” The actor and comedian said he received letters from a television station and a newspaper containing “a litany” of “aggressive attacks.” In the video posted on various social media, he said: “Amidst this litany of astonishing and rather baroque attacks, there are some very serious allegations which I absolutely reject.” “These allegations relate to the time when I was working in the mainstream, when I was always in the papers when I was at the movies and, as I wrote extensively about my books, I was very, very promiscuous,” he said. “During this period of promiscuity, the relationships I had were completely consensual,” she emphasized.
