The BBC and Channel 4 have pledged to investigate claims about comedian Russell Brand after he was accused of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse by four women at the height of his fame.
The alleged assaults occurred between 2006 and 2013, when he was a presenter for BBC Radio 2 and Channel 4, and include an attack on a 16-year-old girl.
Channel 4 removed all programs linked to Brand from its website after the explosive allegations emerged.
Meanwhile, resurfaced interviews reveal that his ex-wife Katy Perry described his behavior as “very controlling”, while pop star Dannii Minogue also described him as a “vile predator” in 2006.
The Metropolitan Police said it was aware of “media reports of a number of allegations of sexual assault” but had not received any related reports.
The 48-year-old vehemently denied the “very serious criminal allegations” ahead of the Sunday Times article and an expose broadcast on Channel 4’s Dispatches.
When the allegations emerged on Saturday, Brand gave a sold-out performance in London, where he told viewers they would “appreciate” that there were certain things he wasn’t allowed to talk about.

In the wake of the sexual assault allegations against Russell Brand, Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said: “I think we need to be particularly careful in listening to the voices of people who are relatively powerless.”
He told the BBC: “I think there are some real challenges where there are these very, very acute power differences, be it in the entertainment industry, be it in politics, and we see that in the business world as well.” I I think we need to be particularly careful in listening to the voices of people who are relatively powerless, because I think we collectively missed the opportunity to do the right thing and intervene much, much sooner, and we need to do that better in this.”
It comes as TV bosses have launched an investigation into allegations of rape, sexual assault and controlling behavior from Brand.
Both the BBC and Channel 4 said they were investigating his alleged behavior and whether broadcaster bosses knew about it.
Brand has denied any wrongdoing.

Tucker Carlson shows support for Brand on X
Tucker Carlson supported Russell Brand on social media after the British comedian posted a video refuting all allegations of rape and sexual assault made against him.

In the video, Brand claimed that all of his “relationships that I’ve had have been absolutely and always consensual.”
He added: “Back then I was always transparent, almost too transparent, and now I’m transparent too.”
Channel 4 has since removed all programs linked to Brand from its online repository. And Netflix is under pressure to follow suit.

Years before disturbing allegations surfaced against Russell Brand, the comedian got into a high-profile feud with legendary musician Rod Stewart.
The Independent has contacted Brand’s representatives for further comment.
At the 2006 GQ Man of the Year Awards, Brand drew the ire of 78-year-old Stewart after he made a rude remark about the singer’s daughter, Kimberley.
As Brand accepted the “Most Stylish” award during the ceremony, he mocked Stewart, who was sitting in the audience.
“This goes to Rod Stewart, who called me out for too much womanizing earlier this year,” he said. “But then again, I tried with his daughter too.”
When Stewart was then invited on stage to accept his Outstanding Achiever Award in recognition of his music career, he didn’t hold back in expressing his disapproval of Brand.
“You left with my daughter, didn’t you?” he said to Brand before telling him to “get up.”
An apparently chastened Brand then told the singer that he had “taken her out for a night out,” prompting Stewart to ask, “Have you behaved?”
Brand backtracked on his original comments, telling Stewart, “I never touched that girl.”
“Damn you didn’t,” Stewart replied, adding: “You can’t come here and brag. I’m speaking as a father here.”

An “urgent” investigation has been launched following Russell Brand’s allegations of misconduct
The BBC, Channel 4 and a production company have said they are launching “urgent” investigations after four women made separate allegations of sexual assault while Russell Brand was appearing on their programs as a presenter.
The comedian and actor, 48, was accused of rape and sexual assault between 2006 and 2013, when he was at the height of his fame and was working for the BBC and Channel 4 and appearing in Hollywood films.
The claims were made as part of a joint investigation by The Sunday Times, The Times and Channel 4 Dispatches and include allegations of Brand’s controlling, abusive and predatory behavior.
Brand vehemently denies the allegations, saying in a video posted online that all of his relationships have been “consensual.”
The BBC said it was “urgently investigating the issues raised” while Brand worked on BBC radio programs between 2006 and 2008, while Channel 4 said it was conducting “its own internal investigation” following the allegations.

Channel 4 is removing all programs associated with Brand
Channel 4 has removed all shows linked to Russell Brand from its website after the explosive allegations emerged.
The Telegraph reported that Netflix was also under pressure to remove all programs associated with it.
On Sunday, Channel 4 confirmed that episodes of The Great British Bake Off and Big Brother’s Big Mouth box sets featuring Brand had been removed from its online platform.
In addition to the Times and the Sunday Times, Channel 4’s Dispatches program was involved in the investigation into the fire allegations.
Brand has denied any wrongdoing.
A channel spokesperson said: “We have removed all content featuring Russell Brand while we investigate the matter. These include episodes of the Great British Bake Off and the Big Brother boxsets in which he appeared.”
