The longtime Seattle Seahawks star waived his no-trade clause and agreed in principle to a new contract with Denver, according to ESPN. According to ESPN, the deal has been in the works since Saturday.

NFL Network reports that the Seahawks are sending Wilson and a fourth-round pick to Denver for two first-round picks, two second-round picks, a fifth-rounder, and quarterback Drew Locke, defenseman Shelby Harris and a tight. the end of Noah Fant.

Just a few weeks ago, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said he had no plans to change the Pro Bowl passer.

“It’s a common thing for us to talk to teams about all the players, especially the high-profile players,” Carroll said last week in response to a question about Seattle’s position in the trade talks on Wilson. “That hasn’t changed. It was the same every year. It is the same.

“We are not going to make any moves there. But he always had the conversations that John should have. But nothing specific.

Wilson, who turns 34 in November and is entering his 11th season in the NFL, has been with the Seahawks since 2012.

Interestingly, Wilson’s biggest hit on the football field came in 2014 against the Broncos, when he led the Seahawks to a landslide 43-8 victory in Super Bowl XLVIII. The former University of Wisconsin star had 206 passing yards and a couple of touchdowns per game.

Wilson, who turns 34 in November, has been with Seattle since 2012 and is entering his 11th season in the NFL. On Tuesday night on The Jimmy Kimmel Show, he said he plans to play until the age of 45.

No salary for Wilson is guaranteed, but he has two years left on his contract and has a $37 million salary cap in 2022.

Last February, after Wilson was sacked more than 40 times in a season for the eighth time, he raised the issue of the Seahawks’ reluctance to tackle the offensive line. He said he would waive the no-trade clause for the Cowboys, Saints, Bears and Raiders. Following Wilson’s comment, three of those teams have new head coaches and two have new general managers.

Wilson missed time with a broken toe in 2021 and had 25 touchdown passes. The Seahawks did not have a winning record for the first time since Wilson began his opening run.

The Broncos struggled to find a quarterback after Peyton Manning retired after the 2015 season.
