Russia accused Ukraine on Friday of using drones to attack a nuclear power plant in the Russian border region of Kursk the day before without causing any damage or increasing radioactivity.
“On the evening of October 26, 2023, an attack by three enemy drones on the Kursk nuclear power plant was stopped. “This event had no impact on the operation of the facility,” the site operator said on Telegram.
The Russian Defense Ministry also reported the attack, which took place at around 11:50 p.m. (20:60 GMT), without specifying that it targeted the nuclear power plant.
“The background radiation in the Kursk power plant and in the area in which it is located is at the level of natural values,” the operator continued, specifying that the attack caused “neither casualties nor damage.”
“The Kursk power plant is operating normally,” he added.
On the Ukrainian side, eight firefighters were injured in a Russian bomb attack on a barracks in the northeastern town of Izioum on Friday morning, Interior Minister Igor Klymenko said.
The governor of the Mykolaiv region in the south reported an attack by Iranian drones during the night that caused no casualties.
According to the Ukrainian presidency, a child was also killed in nighttime shelling in the northeastern Sumy region.
