Russia accuses Westerners of destabilizing the G20 summit

Russia accuses Westerners of “destabilizing” the G20 summit.

Russia on Saturday accused the West of “destabilizing” the G20 financial summit in India by trying to “blackmail” a passage on Ukraine in the joint communiqué, which failed due to disagreements.

“We regret that G20 activities continue to be destabilized by the collective West and used in an anti-Russian and purely confrontational manner,” Russia’s foreign ministry said in a statement.

According to Moscow, the United States, the EU and the G7 have “disrupted the adoption of collective decisions” by trying to impose a “dictate” through “clear blackmail” in order for their interpretation of the conflict in Ukraine to appear in the joint statement.

The ministry accused Washington and its allies of giving “ultimatums” to “many delegations.”

“We urge the collective West to abandon its destructive policies as soon as possible in order to face the objective realities of a multipolar world,” Russian diplomacy continued.

“The G20 must remain an economic forum and not encroach on the security sphere,” he added.

Since Friday, the G20 financial group has been meeting in Bangalore, India’s technological capital, trying to agree on solutions to the challenges facing the global economy amid the conflict in Ukraine and rising inflation.

India, which holds the G20 presidency, released a “summary” of the talks on Saturday at the conclusion of the meetings, but no joint press release.

Accordingly, “most members” condemned the Russian offensive in Ukraine “strongly”, albeit with “different assessments of the situation and sanctions”.

A note said that within the G20, only China and Russia disagreed on two paragraphs on Ukraine.
