Sanctions against Russia following its invasion of Ukraine have taken a toll on the country’s commercial aviation, which has lost nearly 100 airliners so far.
The latest data suggests 76 fewer passenger aircraft compared to the beginning of 2022 due to sanctions on the aviation industry, Russian Transport Minister Vitaly Savelyev told reporters. “The decision to withdraw aircraft surprised us. In total we lost 76 passenger planes,” he said, as reported by RIA Novosti.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously stated that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a longterm strategy of the West and that the sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the global economy.
According to him, the West’s main goal is to worsen the lives of millions of people. The Russian Federation has repeatedly stated that it will solve all the problems that the West creates for it.
Moscow noted that the West does not have the courage to admit the failure of sanctions against the Russian Federation, although the country itself has admitted problems, especially in the aviation sector.
The lost aircraft were repossessed by their owners (lessors) while they were flying abroad. Some units were able to be serviced or restored after the airline reached an agreement with the lessor to purchase the jet. On the other hand, the number of incidents and accidents continues to increase, many of which are due to the lack of spare parts:
