According to its own statements, Russia increasingly wants to fire rockets at Kiev. After a military target on the outskirts of the city was attacked with cruise missiles overnight, further attacks on the Ukrainian capital would follow, the Defense Ministry in Moscow said today.
The explosions that were heard in Kiev today were the loudest since the recent withdrawal of Russian troops from the Ukrainian capital. The Russian Defense Ministry said the night attack hit a factory that builds and repairs missiles. This included anti-ship missiles.
Retaliation for attacks on Russia
The Russian Defense Ministry justified the attacks on Kiev as retaliation for Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory, of which Russian authorities reported several yesterday. The Moscow Defense Ministry had previously announced that the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the recently damaged “Moskva”, had sunk.
The battleship sank in rough seas while being towed to a port. The ministry previously said that a fire caused an explosion of ammunition. According to the government in Kiev, however, the “Moskva” was badly hit by Ukrainian rockets. Warzone information cannot always be independently verified.
