Former Kremlin chief Dmitry Medvedev mentioned the “destruction” of the cable connection between Europe and the US as possible retaliation for the blasts on the Nord Stream pipelines.
“If you assume the proven complicity of Western countries in the blowing up of the Nord Stream lines, then we no longer have any obstacles – including moral ones – to refrain from destroying our enemies’ cable connections placed on the ocean floor,” wrote Deputy head of Russia’s National Security Council on his Telegram channel on Wednesday.
The politician was reacting to media reports that a trail leads to the attacks in Ukraine and that Western intelligence had been informed in advance about the attack plans. Ukraine denies involvement. An alleged involvement of the secret services has also not been confirmed.
Investigators searched an apartment in Brandenburg. It’s about a possible Ukrainian suspect.
02/06/2023 | 02:04 minRussia has long called for a transparent investigation into the September 2022 explosions that blew holes in Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipeline lines laid from Russia to Germany. Moscow has also denied the West’s accusations that it has blown its own lines. In his morning post, Medvedev also supported Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin’s mention of the possible creation of a demilitarized zone in Ukraine, against which Russia has been waging a brutal war of aggression for more than 15 months.
According to the plan, the Nord Stream 2 pipeline will soon bring Russian gas to Germany and Central Europe via the Baltic Sea. This is to ensure the power supply.

Putin spoke of a “sanitary zone” on Tuesday without explaining what he meant. The western line of the zone must therefore be far enough away from Russia that attacks from there are no longer possible. Moscow wants to stop the bombing of Russian territory.
Medvedev has now said that the line should be on the Polish border in view of western arms deliveries to Ukraine with longer ranges. “So these will be the new safe borders,” he said.
Medvedev has repeatedly spoken out in favor of destroying the Ukrainian state. He continues to try to score points with Russian ultranationalists and warmongers with extremist populist statements.
