The attack resulted in the death of a producer and journalist from the US governmentfunded radio station Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty after her home was hit by a missile.
The Russian Defense Ministry said the target was the facilities of the Artyom space and missile company in Kyiv.
This was the first bombing of the capital since midApril. The blasts happened after Guterres visited Bucha and other towns on the outskirts of Kyiv.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack as an attempt to “humiliate the UN and everything that this organization stands for”.

Germany called the attack “inhumane” and said it was a sign that Russian President Vladimir Putin “does not respect international law”.

More than 8,000 alleged war crimes
The UN SecretaryGeneral condemned the attack and called on Moscow to “cooperate” with the International Criminal Court (ICC) to “hold accountable” for the alleged crimes against civilians in Bucha.
Prosecutor General of Ukraine Irina Venediktova told DW that “more than 8,000 cases” of alleged war crimes had been identified.
In addition, she said, investigations are ongoing into ten Russian soldiers suspected of committing atrocities in Bucha, where dozens of bodies in civilian clothes were found after troops withdrew from Moscow.
According to Venediktova, the facts investigated include “murders of civilians, bombings of civilian infrastructure, torture” as well as “sex crimes” reported “in the occupied territories of Ukraine”.
Hours before the Kyiv bombing, US President Joe Biden asked Congress for an additional $33 billion in aid to help Ukraine against Russian “atrocities and aggression.”
“The price for this fight is not cheap. But giving in to aggression will be more expensive,” defended the American President.
Biden said the United States would send 10 antitank weapons for every Russian tank, but Ukrainian air force commander Mikola Olechchuk said the country’s antiaircraft system could not reach the highaltitude bombers.
“We need medium and longrange antiaircraft systems” and “modern combat aircraft,” the military said.
The United States has criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin’s presence at the upcoming G20 summit of developed and emerging economies scheduled for November on the Indonesian island of Bali.
“We cannot pretend that nothing is happening in terms of Russia’s participation in the international community and institutions,” Deputy Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Yalina Porter said.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo said he had invited Putin, who has already confirmed his presence, and Zelenskyy.
Russia has not been able to take Kyiv since beginning its invasion of Ukraine on February 24, but it has concentrated its troops in the east and south of the country, mainly around Mariupol, while targeting longrange western and central regions bombs missiles.
The authorities are trying to remove civilians from Mariupol who are trapped in the gigantic steelworks in Azovstal, where the last cores of the resistance are concentrated.
Ukraine’s Azov battalion said on Telegram that a military field hospital in the industrial complex had been bombed.
The operating theater had collapsed and treated soldiers had been killed or wounded, he added, without giving an exact account.
Russian victories in Donbass
The Ukrainian government has admitted that Russian forces have captured several cities in the eastern Donbass region.
The Ukrainian forces, armed by the western powers, also won some frontline victories.
A senior Pentagon official, who asked not to be identified, said the Russian offensive is moving slowly, “several days behind schedule” from the original forecast.
“They are far from having established the connection between the troops that entered the Kharkiv region (east) and those coming from the south of the country,” he said.
In the Kharkiv region, Ukrainians claimed to have recaptured Ruska Lozova, a town “important to Russian strategy”.
5.7 million left the country
So far, the conflict has forced 5.4 million Ukrainians to leave their country and more than 7.7 million people have fled their homes without crossing the border, according to a UN estimate at a time when the international organization for Migration (IOM) launched an attack request for $514 million in assistance.
