The Russian Foreign Ministry on Thursday denied the alleged threat of nuclear war, as part of a media campaign built by western countries, pointing out that the presence of that nation’s troops in nuclear facilities in Ukraine has compromised the security of those enclaves.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman María Zajárova noted that “cross-border and transformative mechanisms have been set up in the West at the highest level to bring a new thesis into the public space.”
“It is extremely primitive and at the same time terrible: the Russians are threatening nuclear war, the Russians are brandishing a nuclear baton. Does it have to be said that this thesis is extremely wrong and false? Apparently it is necessary,” he claimed.
On the other hand, he emphasized that “our country is against nuclear war, This is exactly what the Russian Foreign Minister says, and this is what guides our diplomacy in its activities.”
Zakharova pointed out that they shouldn’t have shut down their alternative sources of information, then they would have listened to Russia’s statements. “And not in their own media’s interpretation, which they do according to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s (NATO) own methodology,” he said.
The spokeswoman also alluded to the statements made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who stated in an interview that at the review conference the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons was signed by the five permanent members of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, declaring the inadmissibility of the nuclear war.
Similarly, the spokeswoman warned that “the West is openly calling on Kyiv to attack Russia, even with weapons from NATO countries (…) instead of forcing the Kyiv regime to honor the Minsk accords. The United States and its allies have sent advanced weapons and ammunition to Ukraine in violation of their international obligations.”
On the other hand, he argued that “Kyiv and Western capitals take seriously the statements of the Ministry of Defense of our country that further Ukrainian provocations to attack Russian targets will definitely lead to a harsh response from Russia.”
The entity has stated that the Russian military took control of nuclear power plants “only to ensure their safety when these facilities were in the area of a special military operation and to protect them from the actions of Ukrainian saboteurs”. (ALH)
