The Russian Defense Ministry building in central Moscow.
CNN –
According to the state news agency TASS, Russia has denied reports of a fire at its Defense Ministry building in central Moscow after the agency quoted rescue workers as saying a fire broke out on the balcony.
“A fire broke out on a balcony of the Ministry of Defense building on Frunzenskaya Naberezhnaya,” TASS quoted a source from the emergency services as saying, noting that emergency services were at the scene.
Local officials later said no fire was detected in the building, TASS reported.
“The presence of a fire could not be confirmed as firefighters did not find any fire upon arrival. There is also no information about the victims,” TASS quoted the Moscow Ministry of Emergency Situations as saying.
In video seen by CNN, smoke could be seen surrounding the Department of Defense building and a woman was heard saying, “The smell of burning is awful.”
This is an evolving story.
