MOSCOW, 15 September (RHC) – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Riabkov on Thursday reiterated the Kremlin’s position against a nuclear confrontation.
“We have a premise on nuclear conflict. You can’t win and you should never trigger it, everything is under control,” the diplomat said in an interview with International Affairs magazine.
The Deputy Minister regretted British Prime Minister Liz Truss’s statement about her determination to use nuclear weapons if necessary.
“The severity of the current period should not be underestimated. All-out war has really been declared on us: it is being waged in a hybrid manner across the board,” the Russian official commented.
Likewise, the politician stated that if the United States were interested in avoiding tension, it would withdraw the modernized B61-12 thermonuclear bombs stationed on European territory.
Regarding Russia’s position on Ukraine, he said that “Russia is determined to achieve its goals and not give in to pressure from opponents”.
Riabkov condemned Washington’s supply of long-range weapons to Kyiv, training of personnel and support for the secret service: “This creates new challenges. We are ready to deal with them,” he added.
“Many politicians make a career of expressing their disapproval of Russia, even before the special military operation and the events in Crimea in 2014,” the diplomat recalled.
For the official, the next midterm elections to the US Congress could change course on the situation in Ukraine.
Regarding the Iranian nuclear issue, Riabkov pointed out that there was “certain” diplomatic progress “despite the sanctions and erroneous views of some Western politicians”. (font: Latin Press).
