Russia has every chance of becoming the first country in the world to develop a new supersonic passenger aircraft for regular flights, said Transport Minister of the Russian Federation Vitaly Savelyev during Transport Week.
“Of course we have the technology,” he replied to a question from the Russian state agency TASS.
The minister recalled: “We had a demand for the Tu144, we had 16 aircraft, they had their own problems, as we say, the aircraft was ahead of its time.”
Savelyev had previously stated that Russia could not do without supersonic civil aviation and that projects were under development. In the West, too, several companies are working on supersonic passenger aircraft projects, using the most modern technologies available.
