Russia is furious at the Trudeau administration’s decision to seize a Russian cargo plane that has been idle at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport since February 2022.
In a press release, the ministry told Canadian authorities that the seizure of the cargo plane was a “cynical and shameless theft.”
Canada had given itself the power under a law enacted last year to seize assets from sanctioned individuals and then turn them over to others.
According to Global News, Ottawa intends to transfer to Ukraine the aircraft of the Russian company Volga-Dneper, one of the largest in the world.

“This is an blatant attempted robbery and hijacking of a unique aircraft that was delivering COVID-19 medicines to Toronto as part of a humanitarian project,” the Russian Federation Foreign Ministry said.
In addition to his subpoena, the deputy head of Canada’s diplomatic mission in Moscow has been warned by Russian authorities that Canada could face “serious repercussions” in the coming weeks.
“[Ces actions] “This will have the most serious impact on Russian-Canadian relations, which are about to break off,” Moscow warned.
Russia has also accused Canada of pursuing “russophobic” policies since the armed conflict began.
