Russia, Moscow stops Kadyrov on nuclear weapons

Moscow will make decisions in the war between Russia and Ukraine on the basis of “objective and balanced assessments”.. This is the Kremlin’s position following Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov’s “invitation” to consider the use of nuclear weapons. “In this tense moment, the leaders of the regions have the power to voice their views and make assessments. After all, they are the leaders of entire Russian regions. Ramzan Kadyrov, in particular, has contributed a lot to the campaign since the start of the special military operation and continues to do so, but even in difficult times, emotions must be excluded from the ratings. Therefore, we prefer to keep objective and balanced assessments,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

The President of Chechnya had called for the adoption of “more drastic measures, including the imposition of martial law in the border regions and the use of weakly charged nuclear warheads”. The basis for the use of nuclear weapons of any kind, Peskov affirmed, is based on Russian military doctrine, namely when the country’s existence is threatened, “also with conventional weapons”.

According to the Kremlin spokesman, the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Luhansk are now part of Russia within the 2014 borders, while in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions the border issue is set to be resolved in the wake of another confrontation with the population. Questioned by journalists, Interfax reports, Peskov has not yet clarified which borders of the Ukrainian regions will be illegally annexed by Russia after the farce referendum, and refers to undefined consultations with the population.

“In Kherson and Zhaporzhzhia we will continue to consult with the population about the borders,” said Peskov. When asked whether the Kyiv-controlled areas of these regions are considered Russian by the Kremlin, the spokesman replied: “I have nothing more to add now.” When asked how to consult the population at the borders, Peskov said he could not answer that everything will depend on the will of the residents of the areas. Not even the law annexing the new territories, which Russian President Vladimir Putin is about to sign, will clarify the borders: Peskov said he believes the “wording will remain the same”.
