Russia, Putin Signs Law: Tougher Penalties For Deserters Or Surrenders

Soldiers who refuse to take part in combat operations can also be sentenced to 15 years in prison. On the other hand, anyone who voluntarily faces the enemy risks up to 10 years in prison. Also, for Russian deserters who refuse to fight or obey orders from their superiors, the sentence was doubled to 10 years in prison. This was decided by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who today signed the law, which was approved by the chambers this week.
