Russia reports new attacks on Crimea

Anti-aircraft defenses on the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea, annexed by Russia, shot down a Ukrainian cruise missile on Wednesday night, according to local sources. The announcement was made by the Russian head of the Crimean administration, Sergei Aksyonov, on his Telegram channel. The Defense Ministry in Moscow made a similar statement.

The east of the peninsula near the city of Theodosia was affected. Parts of the guided missile hit a power line, an Aksyonov official said. Official information could not be independently verified. Photos purporting to show fires in the region have spread online.

The Russian military said two Ukrainian combat drones were intercepted in the Bryansk region near the border. The night before, Ukraine carried out its largest drone attack to date against targets in Russia. Several Russian military planes were damaged or burned in the city of Pskov, close to the Estonian border.
