Russia says it will put the US in its place

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev issued the Kremlin’s latest threats against the US, accusing the US of fomenting anti-Russian sentiment and claiming that Russia is capable of putting enemies “in their place.”

Medvedev, who is now deputy secretary of Russia’s National Security Council, made the comment a day after President Joe Biden called Russian President Vladimir Putin a war criminal.

This assessment comes on the day of new revelations of attacks on Ukrainians in Mariupol and other cities, as well as AP reports of children buried in mass graves and residents unable to receive food or medical care.

Medvedev warned that Moscow was strong enough to put the world’s preeminent superpower in its place, after US and British assessments that Ukrainian resistance had claimed the lives of thousands of Russian soldiers and indicated that it had stalled Russia’s advance.

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Russia would put “arrogant enemies in their place” and accused the US of trying to bend Russia.

Medvedev, who was president from 2008 to 2012 and was once seen as a potential element of reform when he replaced Putin before the government revised its assessments, said the United States was fueling “disgusting” Russophobia in an attempt to force Russia to its knees.

“It won’t work – Russia has enough strength to put all our daring enemies in their place,” Medvedev said.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, the United States and its European and Asian allies have imposed sanctions on Russian leaders, companies and businessmen, cutting Russia off from much of the world economy.

At first, Medvedev attempted to downplay the initial US sanctions immediately after the invasion, saying they showed “political impotence.”

Now the White House says they are hurting the Russian economy and have brought down the ruble. The Russian stock market has not opened since the invasion.

President Vladimir Putin says what he calls a special military operation in Ukraine was necessary because the United States was using Ukraine to threaten Russia, and Russia had to defend itself against Ukraine’s “genocide” of the Russian-speaking population.

Ukraine says it is fighting for its existence and that Putin’s claims of genocide are nonsense. The West says claims that it wants to tear Russia apart are a fabrication.

Russia says that, despite the sanctions, it could very well do without what it calls the deceitful and decadent West led by the United States. It says that his attempt to build ties with the West after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 was over and that he will develop ties with other powers such as China.

In an American diplomatic cable, Medvedev was once called “Robin for Putin’s Batman.” A 2017 film by opposition leader Alexei Navalny claimed he embezzled $1.2 billion. Palaces, residences and family estates. Yachts and vineyards in Russia and abroad,” Navalny said, calling Medvedev one of the country’s “most corrupt officials.”

Medvedev’s comments came after Putin made chilling comments about the destruction of “traitors” and the “fifth column” in Russia, while warning the oligarchs.

“I do not judge those who have villas in Miami or the French Riviera. Or who can’t do without oysters, foie gras or so-called “gender freedoms”. The problem is that they mentally exist there, and not here, with our people, with Russia,” Putin said.

“The West will try to bet on the so-called fifth column, on traitors… to divide our society… to provoke civil strife… to achieve its goal. And the goal is the same – the destruction of Russia.

He said the Russians “spit them out like a midge in their mouth.”

He said that “the West’s attempt at global dominance” was coming to an end, that he was trying to “cancel” Russia.
