Abramovich, the British newspaper recalls, was one of the first oligarchs to face sanctions by the UK, accused of having “clear ties” to the regime of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The fortune of Gennady Timchenko, the energy-sector oligarch and close friend of Putin, fell 48% to $11.8 billion, while the fortune of Suleiman Kerimov, another Russian presidential ally, fell 41% collapsed $8.99 billion. In total, the Russian oligarchs tracked by the Bloomberg Index lost about $95 billion in 2022.
Frenchman Bernard Arnault (Lvmh) is in first place in the worldwide Scrooges ranking with a fortune of 165 billion dollars. In second place is the American Elon Musk (Tesla, Twitter) with $138 billion and in third place is the Indian Guatam Adani with a fortune estimated at $121 billion. The first Italian in 29th place is Giovanni Ferrero and his family with a fortune of $42.2 billion.
