RUSSIA-UKRAINE LIVE: Paratroopers land in Kharkiv after shelling to kill 21, Russian troops seize port of Kherson, eviction from Kyiv as 80% of Putin’s invading forces now in Ukraine

Russian paratroopers landed in Kharkiv today as the armed forces captured the southern city of Kherson and Ukrainians desperately tried to flee Kyiv.

Concerns are growing that Russia could step up bombing of the Ukrainian capital with a 40-mile convoy of tanks and other military vehicles stacked on its outskirts.

This comes after Ukrainian authorities said that Russian forces had shelled the TV tower in Kyiv and UkraineThe main Holocaust memorial in an attack that killed five people.

About 80 percent of Russia’s invading forces are said to be in Ukraine, with about 15,000 troops – an entire Russian army division – fighting against Kyiv.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will brief lawmakers on talks with his allies in Eastern Europe today as the United Kingdom puts more pressure on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

But he denied that NATO was guarding a no-fly zone over Ukraine during his trip to visit allies, saying no launch of Russian planes from the sky was being considered.

The Foreign Office is expected to announce additional financial sanctions against Moscow banks and also ban all Russian-related ships from mooring in UK ports.

Joe Biden warned Russia that Vladimir Putin had “no idea what’s next”, accusing the president of “underestimating” Western allies and the Ukrainian people.
