Russia will launch a pre-emptive nuclear strike if the West supplies Ukraine with nuclear weapons, one of Vladimir Putin’s closest aides said in a somber warning.

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said the West does not understand that Putin is ready to bring about nuclear Armageddon.

A scolding Medvedev also warned that the war in Ukraine could last “decades,” with long fighting punctuated by ceasefires.

Medvedev – now deputy chairman of Putin’s Security Council – warned that the war has continued to escalate as Ukraine has received fighter jets like the US F-16 and “maybe even nuclear weapons”.

“There are some irreversible rules of war,” he said on a trip to Vietnam. “If it comes to that [deliveries of] nuclear weapons [to Ukraine]”A pre-emptive strike must be carried out.”

The West still doesn’t understand this and wrongly assumes that Putin will not pull the nuclear trigger, Medvedev said.

“That would mean that a missile with a nuclear warhead would come flying towards them,” he threatened.

Apart from Putin, Medvedev is the only living man who had his finger on the Russian nuclear button.

Putin is often seen with an official nearby, apparently clutching his nuclear briefcase.

Meanwhile, Medvedev said the Kremlin fears “a man with dementia” will be elected to the White House, apparently referring to a second term for Joe Biden

He said, ‘The only thing that matters is that a man with dementia doesn’t get elected.’ But that’s possible.’

For Russia, “historically, it’s always been easier to work with Republicans,” he said.

However, he said Republican favorite Donald Trump is “a nice guy, but a little cowardly.”

Meanwhile, Medvedev said the conflict in Ukraine could drag on for decades and there would be long fighting.

“This conflict will last a very long time, most likely decades,” he said. “As long as there is such power.” [in Kyiv]”There will be, say, three years of truce and two years of conflict, and it will all repeat itself.”

Because of this, “it is necessary to destroy the very nature of Nazi power in Kiev,” he claimed.

Medvedev often makes harsh comments, describing Ukrainian authorities as an infectious disease last month.

The former president insisted Ukraine was collapsing – despite Russian setbacks in the war and his prediction that the war could drag on for years.

“It will depend on how the disintegration process of this dying state will go as a result of a lost military conflict,” he said.

“Either it will be a relatively slow erosion of Ukrainian statehood with a gradual loss of remaining elements of state sovereignty.”

“Or immediate collapse with simultaneous annihilation of all marks of statehood.”

Medvedev was Russia’s president from 2008 to 2012 and the country’s longest-serving prime minister since the collapse of communism.
