Short term tsunami warning after earthquake off Tonga islands

Russian airstrike on Kiev repelled

According to official information, a multi-storey residential building in the southeastern town of Kryvyi Rih was hit in renewed Russian attacks on Ukraine. At least three people died and another 25 were injured, the military governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region, Serhiy Lyssak, wrote in Telegram on Tuesday morning. 19 people were taken to hospitals.

Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has been rocked by a “massive rocket attack”, wrote Lyssak. Three cruise missiles managed to fend off air defenses, but others hit civilian objects. The head of the local military administration, Olexander Wilkul, also reported an impact on the five-story building and wrote that several residents were likely still buried under rubble.

Air alert was also declared in several other regions of Ukraine. The Russians fired cruise missiles again, including at the capital Kiev, local officials said. There, however, their own air defense shot down all enemy flying objects. There were reports of drone strikes from the eastern city of Kharkiv.

The US, for its part, has expressed concern over possible North Korean arms sales to Russia. Despite government statements to the contrary in Pyongyang, North Korea delivered a shipment of weapons including infantry missiles and missiles to the Wagner mercenary force in November 2022, according to a US State Department spokesperson. “We are concerned that the DPRK is planning to supply more military equipment to Russia.” Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) is the official name of North Korea.

In March, the United States said Russia was trying to obtain additional weapons from North Korea in exchange for food aid. They imposed sanctions on a person who allegedly tried to trade North Korean weapons to Russia. North Korea is seeking closer ties with the Kremlin and is advocating Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
