Moscow, May 24 (EFE). – A drone was shot down on the outskirts of the city of Belgorod, the capital of the region of the same name on the border with Ukraine, without any casualties, said the governor of that Russian federation, Viacheslav Gladkov, reported today.
“The anti-aircraft system shot down a drone over the Belgorod district. According to preliminary information, there were no injuries,” Gladkov wrote on his Telegram channel.
Shortly thereafter, the governor stated that a drone, possibly the one that was shot down, dropped an explosive device on one of Belgorod’s streets.
According to the images distributed on social networks, the explosive device did not detonate.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, a group of more than 70 saboteurs launched an armed raid with armored vehicles from Ukraine last Monday in the Belgorod region.
The action was taken over by Russian groups fighting on the side of Kiev: the Russian Volunteer Corps and the Freedom for Russia Legion.
According to the Russian daily Kommersant, at least two Russian soldiers were killed and four others injured in the attack.
Losses on the Russian side occurred in a military garrison (Belgorod-22) located 10 kilometers from the border, where three projectiles fired from Uragán launchers hit.
According to the newspaper, the attack also destroyed the administrative building of the Graivoron district, the capital of which has a population of around 6,000.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that all Russian saboteurs had been destroyed.
“The nationalist armed groups were surrounded and eliminated. More than seventy Ukrainian terrorists were liquidated,” said defense spokesman Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov.
The soldier stressed that some of the attackers were driven to Ukraine, where Russian artillery continued to attack them “until they were completely destroyed.” In addition, four armored vehicles and five pickups were destroyed. EFE
