Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will pay a working visit to Brasília on April 17.

The visit was discussed earlier this month between Lavrov and Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira at the meeting of chancellors of the G20, a group of the world’s 20 largest economies. The two had previously started negotiations during a phone call on February 2nd.

At the time of the meeting in New Delhi, India, Itamaraty published on his social networks that in addition to the trip to Brazil, Lavrov and Vieira also discussed issues on the bilateral agenda and analyzed the situation of the war in Ukraine.

In Brazil, the diplomatic representatives of Brazil and Russia should deepen these talks.

The meeting between Sergei Lavrov and Mauro Vieira during the G20 meeting lasted about 45 minutes. According to sources, the first half of the call focused on the bilateral relationship the two countries have and want to have in the years to come.

The second half of the meeting between Vieira and Lavrov was about the war in Ukraine.

Interlocutors from the Brazilian government reported that the meeting was important for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to have, in short, a history of the situation and an uptodate assessment of the conflict by Russia.

Lavrov gave details of previous peace attempts, such as Turkey’s attempt at mediation last year when Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hosted rounds of talks between Russians and Ukrainians. However, a solution to the conflict remains a long way off.

At the end of the meeting with Sergey Lavrov, Itamaraty assessed that both Ukraine and Russia understand Brazil’s position to seek an equalizer.
