Russian journalist who protested invasion of Ukraine on TV escaped

Marina Ovsyannikova, the Russian journalist who protested the invasion of Ukraine on TV last March, escaped the house arrest she was being held in last August when she was arrested for speaking out against the war outside the Russian government’s headquarters had protested in Ukraine. After her escape, the Russian authorities put her on a wanted list. Exactly when she fled is not clear: her ex-husband had spoken out about it last Saturday, and the news had been picked up by a number of Russian newspapers, including the independent newspaper Novaya Gazeta (which is now based in Europe because it was shut down in Russia). Confirmation of the escape only came on Monday, when Russia’s Interior Ministry put her on a wanted list.
