Russian oil giant Lukoil is calling for an end to hostilities

Heavily affected by the sanctions, the oil group was the first major Russian company to oppose the invasion of the country from Moscow.

Number two in Russia’s oil sector Lukoil called on Thursday to “quickly stop” the war in Ukraine, becoming the first major national company to oppose Moscow’s invasion of the country.

“We are in favor of an immediate end to the armed conflict and fully support its resolution through a process of negotiations and diplomatic means,” a statement from Lukoil’s board of directors said.

Stating that he was “concerned about the current tragic events in Ukraine” and expressed his “deep sympathy for all those affected by this tragedy”, Lukoil assured that “do everything possible to continue to work stably in all countries and regions “of the world.

Suspended on the stock exchange

Lukoil is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is not a public company, unlike other major Russian energy companies such as Rosneft and Gazprom.

The London Stock Exchange on Thursday stopped listing financial securities of about twenty Russian companies, including Lukoil.

The financial securities of several Russian companies, such as Lukoil, collapsed in the last days after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and cost only a few cents on an index expressed in dollars on Wednesday night.
