Russian pilots put paper cards in jet cockpit

Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin always praises his military as cutting-edge. Now, a new report reveals explosive details about Putin’s air force.

British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace made public the details, which were highly distressing for Russian President Vladimir Putin, on Tuesday. During a press conference on Monday, Wallace painted a fatal picture of the Russian air force. According to him, GPS devices stuck in the cockpit of fighter jets shot down in Ukraine were found due to lack of equipment.

But that’s not all: “Vehicles with paper maps of Ukraine from the 1980s were often found,” the British minister said, quoting the Daily Mail. Paper maps were also found in the cockpits of Russian planes, the report said. “Almost none of their vehicles have situational and digital combat systems,” Wallace said in the report.

Russia is also using the SU-34 fighters already known from the Soviet Union in Ukraine. “Their limited stockpiles of precision air weapons, as evidenced by a reduction in deployment after the second week, resulted in the Air Force also dropping inaccurate munitions in urban areas,” Wallace said.

Britain is one of Ukraine’s biggest supporters and has been supplying weapons since the beginning of the war. Prime Minister Boris Johnson also remains committed to continuing deliveries.

Ukraine gains territory

The Ukrainian military has reported gaining ground around the second-largest city of Kharkiv in the east of the country. “The occupiers are gradually being driven out of Kharkiv,” President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a video message late on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Russian troops continued to advance into Donbass. The fight continues on Snake Island in the Black Sea. Russian attacks continued on the port city of Mariupol.

“The villages of Cherkassy Tyshky, Rusky Tyshky, Rubishne and Bayrak have been liberated,” the Ukrainian staff said on Facebook. While the Russian armed forces could hit the city of Kharkiv “even less” with artillery attacks, the “intensity of the bombings in the Kharkiv district has increased”. According to the Ukrainian regional administration, Russian troops are also leaving behind “death trap” mines.
