Putin’s Empty Promises

Contrary to promises, gross domestic product has not doubled, the minimum wage has not increased as expected, educated, hard-working people are leaving the country in droves, and the stability promised by Putin is gone.

Referring to the regional and local elections that will take place in Russia on 11 September, MEPs write: “We have had our positions for five years, now it’s time to hand them over to people with new ideas and different strengths. Studies show that in countries that undergo frequent changes of power, people live better and longer than in countries where death ends the term of a president”, write the MEPs in the publicly available minutes. Recently, ultranationalist bloggers have also strongly criticized Vladimir Putin – they are calling for the population to be mobilized.

“Russia is hated again”

“The rhetoric you and your subordinates use has long been characterized by intolerance and aggression and has effectively transported our country back to the Cold War era. Russia is feared and hated again, and again we threaten the world with nuclear weapons. that you resign from your position, because your views and your form of government are hopelessly outdated and impede the development of Russia.”

Accusation of treason?

The parliamentarians of the Smolninskoye district in the city of St. Petersburg want to go even further, as reported by the Russian branch of “The Insider”. They want to present a petition to the Russian parliament with the aim of accusing Vladimir Putin of high treason over the war in Ukraine. The announcement was made by deputy Dmitry Palyuga on Twitter. Speaking to Insider, Palyuga said that seven of the ten MPs voted in favor of the petition.

According to politicians, since the beginning of the “special military operation”, as Ukraine’s invasion of Russia should be called, Putin’s actions fall under Article 93 of the Russian Constitution, which requires the State Duma to stop the president for treason. or other serious crimes, as the Russian Parliament is called.

According to the petition, Putin “harmed the security of Russia and its citizens” with the invasion because the Russian army was losing its combat-capable units and its soldiers were becoming incapacitated.

NATO enlargement is Putin’s fault

Deputies also criticize the fact that the withdrawal of numerous internationally operating companies and their specialists, as well as the mass emigration of well-educated people, have caused enormous damage to the Russian economy. Furthermore, since the attack, NATO would have spread eastward – before the start of the war, Putin defined one of the goals of the war as containing the expansion of NATO.
