Ryan Gosling sings as poor and ignored Ken in the latest ‘Ken’ trailer "Barbie"

That was the dress code on the set of Barbie 1:08

(CNN) – As the release of the movie Barbie draws ever closer, Ryan Gosling’s latest trailer sees Ken grieving over life in his partner’s shadow.

“I don’t know who I am without you,” Ken says of Margot Robbie’s Barbie in the trailer released Monday.
Then we see Ken singing about the dynamic between the two and that they are best friends.

“No matter what I do, I’m always number two,” he sings. “No one knows how hard I try.”

Ken then reveals his unrequited feelings for Barbie.

“I’m just Ken. Where I see love, she sees a friend,” he sings. “What do I need to recognize the man behind the tan and fight for me?”

The trailer is part of the promotion for the new Warner Bros. film Barbie, which is slated to hit theaters July 21. Like CNN, Warner Bros. is a unit of Warner Bros. Discovery.

Directed by Greta Gerwig, the live-action feature sees Barbie and Ken leave Barbie Land to explore the ‘real world’.

According to the production designer, creating the perfect backdrop for the upcoming film required so much pink paint that there was a global shortage of the hue.

“The world has run out of roses,” Sarah Greenwood said in a recent interview with Architectural Digest.
