Ryan Gosling sings heartily about himself as poor, overlooked Ken in latest ‘Barbie’ trailer

CNN –

As the Barbie movie release date draws ever closer, Ryan Gosling’s latest teaser sees Ken lamenting his life in the shadow of his female companion.

“Without you, I just don’t know who I am,” Ken tells Margot Robbie’s Barbie in the trailer, which was released on Monday.

Then we see Ken sing about the dynamic between the two best friends.

“It doesn’t seem to matter what I do, I’m always number two,” he sings. “No one knows how hard I try.”

Ken then reveals his unrequited feelings for Barbie.

“I’m just Ken. Where I see love, she sees a friend,” he sings. “What will it take for her to recognize the man behind the tan and fight for me?”

The teaser is part of the promotion for Warner Bros.’ new Barbie movie, which is slated to hit theaters July 21. Like CNN, Warner Bros. is a unit of Warner Bros. Discovery.

Directed by Greta Gerwig, the live-action film follows Barbie and Ken as they leave Barbie Land to explore the “real world.”

Creating the perfect backdrop for the upcoming film required so much pink paint that, according to production designers, there was a global paint shortage.

“The world has run out of pink,” Sarah Greenwood said in a recent interview with Architectural Digest.
