SAG Awards 2023: Jamie Lee Curtis plants KISS on Michelle Yeoh’s lips to celebrate her win

Michelle Yeoh got the kiss of her life on Sunday when the one and only Jamie Lee Curtis gave her a passionate hickey at the 29th Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday.

Curtis, 64, was overcome with emotion when she scooped the Supporting Actress category for her acclaimed performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

After her name was called, an ecstatic Jamie Lee pulled Michelle in for a serious kiss, hugged the iconic star’s face with her hands and smacked their mouths together.

Yeoh received an extra boost of happiness from Curtis and her kiss when the 60-year-old star won for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actress in a Leading Role.

But it was Jamie’s victory speech that – along with their kiss – left a lasting impression as the daughter of Hollywood legends Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh declared she was proud to be a “Nepo baby”.

Curtis accepted the award with overwhelming enthusiasm and quickly became emotional when she spoke about her parents and how much she loves her job.

She said: “I wear the wedding ring my dad gave my mum – they hated each other btw – but my sister Kelly and I were born out of love and my dad was from Hungary and my mum was from Denmark and they had nothing but her became monstrous stars in this industry they loved so much.’

Jamie’s mother, Janet Leigh, became the ultimate Hitchcock blonde when she starred in the 1960 classic psychological horror film Psycho.

The star’s father, Tony Curtis, was one of Hollywood’s leading men in the ’50s and ’60s, starring in The Defiant, Some Like It Hot and Operation Petticoat.

“My parents were actors and I married an actor,” explained Jamie from the podium. “I love acting, I love the job we do, I love being part of a cast and crew, I love what we do together, it’s a beautiful job.”

The Halloween star didn’t shy away from the Nepo baby phenomenon as she addressed it head-on in her speech.

“I know so many in our industry are looking at that night and thinking, ‘Will this ever be possible for me?’ I know you look at me and you’re like ‘nepo baby’ and I totally get it, but the truth is I’m 64 years old and that’s just amazing.”

Jamie – who won the award ahead of co-star Stephanie Hsu, Kerry Condon (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), Angela Bassett (“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”) and Hong Chau (“The Whale”) – finally admitted that she was gone over time but couldn’t resist giving Michelle some praise.

Standing on the podium in her crimson dress, clutching her trophy, the Freak Friday star opened up about how Yeoh’s towering reputation was the reason she accepted the role of a villainous IRS agent in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

She said, “Rick Kurtzman [talent manager] called me and said the Daniels are doing this movie, it’s going to be shot in LA – “F*** yah” – and it has Michelle Yeoh in it, and I said, “Damn yeah,” and he said, “Wait , it’s weird,’ and I said, ‘Yeah, but I get to perform alongside Michelle Yeoh.’

Curtis led a chant for her pal, adding, “Michelle — I love you, I love you, I love you.”

When Yeoh’s name was called at the Golden Globes last month, Curtis looked like her favorite football team had just scored the winning touchdown at the Super Bowl.

She was captured with her arms raised to the ceiling and her jaw open roaring as she broke free and cheered for Michelle.

Everything Everywhere All at Once dominated the SAG Awards – winning three major acting categories and winning Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

In addition to moving Curtis and Yeoh closer to Oscar gold, their co-star Ke Huy Quan cemented his status as the clear front-runner for best supporting actor.

Quan – who was a child star in the ’80s before his adult acting career petered out – was also emotional as he reflected on the meaning of his win for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role.

Ke Huy made history with his win saying: “Thank you first Asian actor to win in this category. When I heard that, I quickly realized that this moment is no longer just mine, but everyone who asked for change.

“When I retired from acting it was because there were so few opportunities. But now we’re celebrating here.

“The landscape now looks so different than before, so thank you to all of you in this room and everyone who has contributed to these changes.”

“Thank you to SAG-AFTRA for this truly prestigious honor. Many thanks to Michelle Yeoh. Michelle I’m so glad we both started our careers in 1984 and would one day meet on the big screen. Many thanks to Jamie Lee Curtis and our entire cast.’

“Finally, to everyone at home watching and struggling to be seen, please keep going because the limelight will find you one day.”
