SAIL Plein Air, a Quebec retailer specializing in the sale of clothing and sports equipment, is trying to carve out a place in the used items market by launching its own resale platform for used items.
The company launched reSAIL.ca this week, addressing the growing needs of outdoor enthusiasts who want to adopt responsible consumer habits and save money.
“Reselling is now an integral part of consumer behavior, particularly due to its ecological and economic benefits. “SAIL is proud to incorporate this environmentally conscious practice into its overall offering,” said Norman Décarie, President and CEO of SAIL Plein Air Inc. “This is an important step in our journey to create a more responsible and sustainable company.”
The Quebec-based chain hopes to “bring new stories to life” to the many clothes and appliances that are no longer used in Canadians’ garages and closets.
Old and current clothing, shoes, bags and camping equipment (tent, shelter, sleeping bag) can be offered for sale on the platform.
Excluded are safety equipment, products for personal use, fuel and food.
A list of authorized brands and outdoor products makes it easier for sellers to select items and put them online, according to a press release.
While there are already big players in the second-hand space like Marketplace, reSAIL’s main advantage is its security, according to Nicolas Gaudreau, vice president of marketing at SAIL.
With reSAIL, customers do not have to text or call each other and are never in contact with each other. “Everything is done electronically on a secure platform,” he summarized during his visit to LCN.
