A man in his 60s remains in very critical condition in hospital after being beaten by his roommate in an apartment building in Saint-Hyacinthe, Montérégie, on Thursday evening.
The fight between the two men broke out around 7 p.m. in a residence on Avenue Saint-Jacques near the intersection with Morin Street.
The reason for the argument between the two roommates remained unclear until the evening.
Police were called to go to the two men’s apartment, where they found the victim unconscious on the floor.
The man suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital in critical condition. According to our information, his life would hang by a thread.
His roommate, aged about fifty, was arrested at the scene by police officers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
According to our sources, no weapon was used in the crime. The suspect is said to have used physical violence to injure his roommate.
Crimes Against Person investigators from the SQ were dispatched to the crime scene later in the evening. Forensic identification technicians were also on site to conduct a crime scene analysis.
The suspect was to be received by investigators at the end of the evening to give his version of the facts.
