By Estelle Leveque

This year, Quebec’s National Day falls on a Saturday. The same also applies to Canada Day. On this holiday and the ones before it, here are the businesses, institutions and community services that remain open or available.

Municipal Services

All city offices will be closed on Friday 23rd and 30th June. Therefore, it will not be possible to reach communications from the municipality on the number 311. However, citizens can use the 311 application, fill out an online form, or choose option 4 of 311 to get the DA number.

Parking and RTC

On Saturdays, June 24th and July 1st, street parking is free in front of the parking meters (with the exception of Rue de la Maréchaussée, where parking is charged at all times). The streets in the Parc des Champs-de-Bataille will only be free from July 1st.

The car parks equipped with toll terminals will remain subject to a charge, in particular the car parks located in Park Esplanade in front of the Palais train station in the Saint-Sacrement district (between Chemin Sainte-Foy and Rue Marie-Rollet) and in the Maguire Avenue sector.

The services of the Réseau de Transport de la Capitale will operate on June 24th and July 1st according to the usual Saturday timetable.

businesses

According to the Law on Opening Hours and Days of Access to Commercial Facilities, Retail stores are forced to close their doors on these holidays. This affects shops, boutiques, outlets, markets and others except booksellers, antique dealers and florists.

Additionally, as the National Day falls on a Saturday, some establishments normally open over the weekend may choose to close on Monday 26 June. However, convenience stores, pharmacies, petrol stations and certain small grocery stores will remain open.

Most restaurants, bars and museums are open on June 24th and July 1st, to the delight of weekend strollers.

Libraries and Leisure

All libraries are closed on Quebec National Day and Canada Day Saturdays. Sports facilities are open when activities are scheduled.

emergency department

Day and night, vital services such as police, fire protection and water treatment are maintained at all times. In the event of an emergency involving water, sewerage, street lighting, or road conditions, dial 311 and choose option 1.

Garbage, recyclables and eco centers

Garbage and recyclables collection will be maintained according to the usual schedule. All eco centers will remain closed on Saturday 24 June. They will be open on Saturday July 1st according to their usual summer schedule.
