On Monday, just before 11am, the St. Gallen cantonal emergency response center received a report about a lifeless woman in a smoke-filled solarium on Grenzstrasse.

Emergency services could only determine that the woman was dead. She was a 48-year-old Ukrainian woman who lived in the Rhine Valley.

An informant reported to the St. Gallen cantonal emergency care center a lifeless, fully clothed woman in a smoke-filled solarium. It is unclear whether she used the sunbed before. The solarium contains several individual cabins and can be accessed and operated independently during opening hours.

Fire started in the cabin

According to current information, the fire occurred in a cabin at an unspecified time. Presumably, there was no outright fire due to the lack of oxygen in the premises. However, there was heavy smoke forming on the ground floor of the property. The smoke was eliminated by the fire department.

The cause of the fire is being clarified by the Forensic Competence Center of the Police of the Canton of St. Gallen, under the direction of the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Canton of St. The Institute of Forensic Medicine of the Cantonal Hospital of St. Gallen was tasked with determining the cause of the woman's death.
