According to Kenner, Louisiana police, Michael Thomas was arrested on charges of simple assault and criminal mischief around 7 p.m. Friday. This stems from an altercation between the Saints wide receiver and a contractor in his neighborhood that resulted in him being taken away by police, according to WDSU in New Orleans. The Saints confirmed they were aware of the situation and were gathering more information.
Luis Cifuentes, the contractor involved in the altercation with Thomas, told WDSU that around 5:30 p.m. local time on Friday, Thomas threw two bricks at his truck, knocking it over.
Cifuentes worked as a project manager for a house being built near Thomas’ residence. He points out that the problems with the former offensive player of the year began two weeks ago when he said Thomas became upset that construction workers were parking their cars on the street. Cifuentes said Thomas even told him at one point that if the cars weren’t moved, his vehicle would get a “rock or a bullet.”
Things came to a head on Friday when Thomas allegedly threw the stones and knocked over Cifuentes.
“He pulls up and I see him get out and I thought, ‘I don’t know what he’s doing, I’m just worried about my construction site,’ and he walks up to this big pile of sand and grabs a brick, and he throws it at my car and the guys are like, “Hey, man, your truck, your truck!” “Oh, dude, he’s actually doing something,” so I grab my phone and start recording him and he grabbed my phone, grabbed me and pushed me,” Cifuentes said, via WDSU.com.
At that point, Cifuentes and neighbors said Thomas was put in a police car and driven away.
“I told him I was like, ‘Man, listen, I cheered for you every Sunday, I never thought I’d have this much of a problem with you.’ So now we’re here,” Cifuentes said.
Thomas and the Saints travel to Minnesota this weekend to face the Vikings in Week 10 on Sunday.
