Almost everyone knows the controversial website Hockey30. When I started DansLesCoulisses, I had a strong disagreement with the others because I didn't believe how they could take a hit that you had been working on for days and attribute it to yourself and not give you any credit .
But who were these unethical people? I asked myself at the time.
Over the years, we learned that the guy behind Hockey30 was called David Garel, that there weren't many people working for him, and that David had somehow escaped Quebec after his worst moves (hello Marie-Pierre Danault!) to seek refuge in Mexico .
But he never showed his true colors.
No one knew where he was in his life… how he was dealing today with all the stories he had told over the years…
And above all, how much money he could make per year with his site.
So two or three weeks ago I started a process aimed at bringing David Garel onto the set of the new podcast that I co-host with Jean Trudel (Stanley25).
And it took place on Monday night at 9 Million Studios.
In the last few hours it was then published on YouTube and Spotify.
Preparation for this episode was important. What should we talk about? How should we treat/maintain it? Where would we rather not go?
The shoot was special, I didn't know if we were too hard or too soft; We didn't want to glorify him or hit him over the head in a group, as is sometimes the case on the TLMEP set.
When I looked at the final result yesterday morning, I realized that we had something outstanding on our hands. For this reason, we decided to publish it on Wednesday afternoon instead of the usual Thursday lunchtime.
The big hit of the podcast: definitely David Garel, who admits to earning almost a million dollars a year in his good years!

Also on the program in episode (5): Where does David Garel come from? How did he start reaching out to people on the internet? In order to sleep well, it was necessary to create a character… His arguments with Jean-Charles Lajoie, numerous journalists, Geoff Molson, Maxim Lapierre and Marie-Pierre Danault… His “advice” on Renaud Lavoie and Louis Jean… His tactics to be a two-sided weather vane… The pride with which he looks back… The formal notices he received…
I suggest you watch the entire podcast to understand all the nuances of the character.

Big respect to David Garel for agreeing to step out of the shadows and chat openly on our set. And to those who tell us we shouldn't have invited him: I believe in freedom of the press and freedom of expression. Why wouldn't you want someone who wants to explain themselves to people to be able to do so? Mainly because he wanted to tell people that he had changed and that he regretted it.
And most importantly, the views collected by the video prove that yes, people wanted to hear it.
Freedom of expression goes both ways!
