After accepting the statuette, Pang compared the experience to the 1973 Oscars, when Marlon Brando won and sent Sacheen Littlefeather to collect his award.

Sam later told the podcast That’s Enough Rather that he didn’t actually want to go on stage to collect an award for another comedian and only agreed because he was convinced Flanagan wasn’t going to win.

“I did something… that shits me.” “I had to accept an award on behalf of someone,” he said.

‘[Flanagan] was nominated for the Favorite Actress category and she didn’t think she would win. In this category you have heavyweights like Deborah Mailman with strong performances – then old comedy Flanagan wins!’

Pang continued, “To pick up something on behalf of someone else? I’m like, ‘Shit, what a waste of time.’

This comes after Seven confirmed the Logies will be held in Sydney this year for the first time since 1986.

The awards ceremony has been held on the Gold Coast since 2018 with the support of the Queensland Government, but that contract ended in 2022.

The ceremony will be broadcast on Channel Seven on July 30.
