Sam Reinhart is constantly improving his own record

Forward Sam Reinhart found a way to put the puck in the net again, but the Florida Panthers lost 3-2 to the Detroit Red Wings in overtime at the BB&T Center on Wednesday night.

The 28-year-old skater put the puck in the net on special teams for the eighth straight game, a National Hockey League (NHL) record.

He also made a statement for the Panthers by scoring in his eighth straight game. The previous record of seven games belonged to none other than Pavel Bure.

With this goal, Reinhart also reached the plateau of 500 points in the Bettman Circuit. It was his 33rd goal of the season and marked the highlight of his NHL career.

The man who could become an unrestricted free agent this summer has conceded just one fewer goal than National League leader, Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews.

Reinhart scored the first goal against the Wings. The Panthers' other goalscorer was Gustav Forsling.

Michael Rasmussen and Robby Fabbri defeated goalkeeper Serguei Bobrovski in regular time for the Red Wings. It was Dylan Larkin who played the overtime hero. His goal gave the Michigan club its third straight win and seventh win in its last nine games. The Panthers have lost their last three meetings.

The Red Wings will look to continue their success on Friday when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes. The Florida team will be in action on the same day, hosting the Minnesota Wild.
